Mdm Tan became homeless when she was evicted by her landlord from her rented room. AWWA Home took her in and she has been there since 1993.
When she was first admitted to the Home, she was depressed and disinterested in joining the communal activities. The staff showed her care and concern, counselled her, and encouraged her to participate in the Home’s activities and programmes.
Now, she spends her days healthily engaged in many activities such as morning exercises, Bingo, tea sessions, art and craft and outings. With a ready smile on her face, she is cheerful and socially active, a far cry from the sad old lady she once was.
It is a huge burden off her frail shoulders that she does not have to worry about her meals and a roof over her head.
“I will take one day at a time. The staff here are nice and they can help me if I have any problems.” Mdm Tan said.
