By combining the twin objectives of environmental as well as social awareness, Singapore Polytechnic conceptualised the annual Singapore River Raft Race (SRRR) along the Singapore River. Participants are encouraged to use recycled materials to construct rafts that are sound in design, and yet fast enough to compete in the race. Besides the “Fastest Raft” award, teams also compete for the “Most Innovative Raft” award. All these elements add to the fun and colour of the event, which attracts participation from local schools, uniformed groups, the media, international groups etc.
The coming SRRR, which will take place on 24 & 25 May 08, marks the 20th anniversary of this popular event. It will be themed “The Amazing Raft Race” and a portion of the raised funds will be channelled to Tanglin School (managed by the Association for Persons with Special Needs).
