As we gather to enjoy the warmth and joy of Chinese New Year with our loved ones at home, do remember lonely and needy elderly like Mr Chia Puay Song. 84-year-old Mr Chia is single and has been living in SILRA Home* for the last 18 years. He was diagnosed with leprosy at his prime when he was only 21 years old. The condition affected his mobility and he could only move about in a wheelchair. Six years later, he was hit with another tragedy when his only kin, his mother, passed away. He persevered and made a meagre living by taking on farming and odd jobs.

In spite of his misfortunes, Mr Chia has an unfaltering spirit. He is an optimist at heart and never fails to bring cheer to the people around him, especially his fellow residents at the Home. He entertains them by playing his beloved Chinese instrument, the Yang Ching, and is known for being one of the most cheerful residents in the Home.

His simple wish for the new year is to enjoy ‘good health’. He is deeply grateful for the care he receives at SILRA Home which can only continue to provide for him with your donation today.
