President S R Nathan’s Calligraphy Of “Love” Raised $100,000 

President S R Nathan’s calligraphy of the traditional Chinese character for Love, “愛” , raised $100,000 for Gifts of Love” Charity Gala 2011. He presented the calligraphy to one of the top donors for the charity gala, CapitaLand Hope Foundation, at the dinner last night. Mr Edmund Tie, Vice-Chairman of Community Chest and Chairman of Gifts of Love Charity Gala 2011 said, “It is heartening to note that Community Chest currently has the support of more than 225,000 individual donors and 2,200 corporate donors.” He mentioned that funds raised will help needy children and families, youths-at-risk, persons with disabilities and the elderly.

The Charity Gala was held in Raffles City Convention Centre and a charity auction was also held during the dinner. $1.128 million was raised for Community Chest and the Philippine Bayanihan Society (Singapore). The funds raised will also help the Philippine Bayanihan Society (Singapore) to continue providing skills training and development opportunities for the Filipino community in Singapore as well as create avenues for strengthening ties between Filipinos and Singaporeans.
