- An early start helps them to cope with their disability and prepare them for mainstream or special education schooling
Specialised education
- Special schools are more suitable for these children than mainstream schools
- Some special schools offer a mainstream curriculum while others focus on pre-vocational and daily living skills
- There are programmes available that cater to different types of disabilities
A range of solutions
- Therapy gives children with special needs more control over their motor skills; and life skills training helps them take care of themselves
- Their families also need counselling and support to help them cope with meeting the children's special needs

Preventive and developmental programmes to:
- create positive self-identity and confidence for them
- improve their social competency
- strengthen their relationship with family, peers and teachers
A wide scope of services e.g.
- casework and counselling with their families
- outreach to other friends to build rapport and understanding
- support groups and workshops on issues that they face e.g. managing peer pressure, building resilience and anger management etc.
- case conference with their school personnel to jointly ensure they are coping well
- workshops for their parents so that they can be a source support
